Laser Vision Consultation & Comanagement

What is Lasik?

LASIK, or laser in-situ keratomileusis, is the most technologically advanced method of correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Excellent results and an exceptional safety record have made LASIK the procedure of choice for those who are candidates.

How does LASIK work?

optometric-vision-examA surgical instrument called a microkeratome creates a superficial flap of corneal tissue, which is deflected to one side.

A cool beam of laser light is used to precisely reshape the cornea. The precision of the beam is controlled by a computer, which is programmed individually for each patient by a credentialed medical professional.

After the reshaping process, the corneal flap is replaced without stitches, and the Lasik procedure is complete, allowing light to focus on the retina naturally and correctly.

Am I a good candidate?

Only a comprehensive examination by a qualified eye care professional can determine whether you are a good candidate. Generally speaking, candidates should be at least 18 years of age with no history of serious eye disease.

People with certain medical conditions and women who are pregnant may not be good candidates for LASIK.
An examination by a qualified eye doctor is the best way to determine if LASIK is right for you and what your expected outcome might be.

What kind of results can I expect?

Everyone is different. Most LASIK patients no longer need eyeglasses or contact lenses while driving, playing sports, or watching movies and television. People pursuing careers that require excellent vision, such as police officers, paramedics, physicians, firemen, and athletes, have benefited greatly from LASIK.

Even those who are severely nearsighted, astigmatic, and farsighted can achieve outstanding results with LASIK.
